06/09/10

Join us for an evening of timeless knowledge. Bathe in the soothing rays eminating from the transcendental literature of Bhagavad-gita. The class is structured as a complete unit, so you can join in any time you can.

Although spoken 5,000 years ago in India, the knowledge contained within the Bhagavad-gita is not limited to a particular historical setting or cultural background. The Gita, like the subject matter, is unborn, eternal, imperishable and timeless.

In the Gita, Krishna reveals the nature of consciousness, the self, the universe and the Original Divine Source. The Bhagavad Gita proposes that true enlightenment comes when one releases the misidentification with the false ego and recognizes the self as the eternal spark of the Divine, a part and parcel of the Supreme Whole.

This enlightenment is understood by the Gita to be the ultimate goal of all Beings. It is realized through the ancient and sacred practice of Yoga, which takes us beyond the limitations of mortality to a realization of the eternal, full of knowledge and blissful Self (Atman), away from attachment for the material world to an attachment to the Supreme Reservoir of Pleasure.

The more we realize our spiritual identity, the more we will see that we are beyond these temporary material bodies, and that our identity is not simply being a white body, or black, or yellow, or woman or man, fat, skinny, intelligent, dumb, old, young, strong, weak, blind, etc.

As we realize our true identity, we also recognize the true identity of others. On this platform, there is true equality and no longer a need for lust, anger, greed, hatred, anxiety....

In this spiritually empowering workshop, we will explore and experience this transcendental knowledge. We will meditate on the Gita's teaching of what it means to be fully conscious while in the world by shifting our awareness from a state of illusion to one of enlightened action. We will meditate on the profound truths of the texts and experience its transformative power for ourselves.

CLASS STRUCTURE

The evening will begin with Kirtan, a call and response musical chanting of the Maha-mantra (instruments welcome).

As the concerns of the day slip away, this chanting will purify our minds and open our hearts to the knowledge being offered through the Bhagavad-gita. Then we will all participate in the chanting or recitation of a particular Sanskrit mantra from the Bhagavad-gita. This will be followed by a short teaching offered by Dulal Chandra dasa, a student of Vedanta for more than 30 years, then opened for group discussion.

There is no fee. Materials are provided. There is no registration and you can drop in any time.
